Post-Surgical Rehab in Central London

Structured rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery, from ACL reconstruction and shoulder repairs to hip and knee replacements, always built around your surgeon's protocol and moved on in measured stages.

Post-Surgical Rehab

What post-surgical rehab involves

An operation repairs or replaces a structure. Getting back your strength, movement, control and confidence happens over the weeks and months afterwards, and that work has a large say in how well you recover.

In the early stages, your programme follows your surgeon's protocol closely, because healing tissue and any fixation decide what is safe and when. Protocols vary by surgeon and procedure, so Carly works from your discharge notes and written instructions, and checks with your surgical team if anything is unclear.

The stages are then broadly consistent: settle swelling and protect the repair, restore range of movement, rebuild strength, then rebuild the specific capacity your goal needs, whether that is stairs and a full working day or a return to sport and racing. Care runs through physiotherapy and sports injury rehab, with performance testing for return-to-sport decisions.

Post-surgical rehab can help you to:

Follow my surgeon's plan without guessing

Carly turns your surgeon's protocol into a clear weekly programme, so you know what to do, what to avoid and when each restriction is due to lift.

Get my movement back

Range of movement is restored in line with what your repair allows, with swelling and stiffness managed so they do not hold progress back in the first weeks.

Walk, climb stairs and get through the day

After a hip or knee replacement, the focus is everyday strength and confidence, so walking, stairs and getting in and out of a car become easier week by week.

Return to sport or racing with proof

Strength and function are retested against the other side and your own baseline, so the return decision is made on evidence and agreed with your surgical team where needed.

Which operations need rehab afterwards?

  • ACL reconstruction and other knee ligament surgery, through to a tested return to sport

  • Knee arthroscopy, including meniscal repair, where the surgeon sets the early loading limits

  • Rotator cuff repair and shoulder stabilisation surgery, following the sling and range restrictions

  • Total or partial hip and knee replacement, rebuilding walking, stairs and everyday strength

  • Achilles tendon repair and ankle ligament surgery, through to running and jumping again

  • Fracture fixation after a fall, collision or crash, once the surgical team has cleared rehab

What happens at your first assessment?

Your first session is a full hour with Carly. She takes your history, asks what you need to get back to, then screens how you move, how strong you are and what the problem area is doing under load.

You leave with a working diagnosis in plain English, the first steps of your plan, and a clear idea of how progress will be measured.

Assess

Physical screening and performance testing to find what is limiting you. Carly takes a full history, examines how you move and load, and measures where it matters, so the plan starts from numbers rather than guesswork.

Plan

A programme built around your goals, your sport and your calendar. You leave knowing what is driving the problem, what you are going to do about it, and how progress will be measured from one session to the next.

Build

Coached sessions and progressive loading, adjusted as you improve. Strength, control and conditioning are built in stages, with the load moved on only when the last stage has been earned.

Return

Back to sport and racing, with objective measures to prove it. The decision to return rests on retesting against your own baseline, so you go back with evidence rather than a feeling.

Post-surgical rehab
questions

When should I start rehab after surgery?

That depends on the operation and your surgeon's instructions. Many protocols start within days, while others need a protected period first. Bring your discharge notes and any written protocol to your first Box Box session so your programme matches exactly what your surgeon has specified.

What warning signs after surgery need urgent care?

Get urgent medical help if your wound becomes hot, red, swollen or starts leaking, or you have a high temperature. Call 111 or your surgical team for a painful, swollen, warm calf. Call 999 if you are suddenly short of breath or have chest pain.

Does Carly work with my surgeon?

Yes. Carly works within your surgeon's protocol and the restrictions on your discharge notes. If something is unclear, or progress is not what the protocol expects, she will suggest you check in with your surgical team before the programme moves on.

How long does rehab take after a knee or hip replacement?

Most people are walking with an aid soon after surgery and build up over the following weeks. Full strength and confidence often take several months, and recovery varies from person to person. Your programme is reviewed at each session and moved on when you are ready.
